Plan for market volatility before it arrives.

Design portfolios around your clients’ goals, with protection built in from the start.

Made to scale with companies of all sizes

The market problem

Protective investing is the exception, not the default.

The pressure

Diversification doesn't always soften the fall.

When markets turn, stocks and bonds can fall at the same time, leaving clients with less protection than expected.

The Gap

Protection is difficult to scale.

Sourcing, managing, and documenting defined outcome strategies gets harder across client portfolios.

The consequence

Protection gets built in too late.

Protection often becomes a priority after markets fall, rather than being built in from the start.

Demand for protection is growing.

The U.S. Structured Investment market has more than tripled in the last 8 years.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the 60/40 under pressure?

The traditional 60/40 is facing pressure from elevated equity valuations, higher stock-bond correlation, and wider drawdowns, challenging bonds’ traditional role as a portfolio shock absorber.

How do defined outcome investments act as a shock absorber?

Defined outcome investments work alongside stocks and bonds, adding protection to help manage downside risk by specifying the downside rather than diversifying against it.

Is protective investing only for large accounts?

No. Halo offers a range of investment minimums based on account size, helping make these investments accessible to a broader range of investors.

What are the risks of structured notes, and is the protection guaranteed?

No, protection is not guaranteed. Where a note offers principal protection, that protection is subject to the credit risk of the issuing institution, not Halo, and many notes do not offer it at all. Other risks include market, credit, and liquidity risk, complexity in the payoff structure, and uncertain tax treatment. Notes are generally illiquid and intended to be held to maturity.

Does added protection limit the upside?

Usually, yes. The tradeoff is defined upfront, which is part of the purpose of a defined outcome investment.

When should protection be added to a portfolio?

As part of broader allocation decisions, rather than as a reaction to a drawdown already underway.
